Do you need a home organizer? Take the storage test

One honest question tells you whether you need a professional organizer or just a tidy-up: if you put every single thing away, would it fit? Miss B explains.

What's the number one thing almost all of our clients have in common? Storage. You only have a certain amount of it, and the whole question of whether you need professional help comes down to one honest test.

The storage test

Imagine you spent an entire weekend, and you decided you were going to put every single thing you own away. Every dish, every shirt, every cable, every craft supply.

Would it fit?

That's it. That's the test. The answer is either a yes or a no.

If it's a yes (your stuff fits your storage, and the mess is just a putting-away backlog), congratulations, you don't need us. You might want a flats-and-paths reset and a freer weekend, but structurally, you're fine.

If it's a no? You can't organize your way out of a "no." No bin, basket, or labeling spree makes a home hold more than it holds. A "no" means it's time to change the amount of stuff, and that's exactly the job a professional organizer exists for.

The everyday signs

You don't have to run the full weekend experiment. The house is already telling you:

  • Walk into your kitchen or dining room. Do the tables and side tables have stuff on them, more than a couple of things? That's storage overflowing into your living space.
  • Is your laundry easy to put away? Or are there four, five, six baskets in rotation? (One lovely client had twelve baskets of overflowing extra clothing. She's doing great now, and she was never the problem; the volume was.)
  • When you come home from a big shop, does putting groceries away take five minutes, or an hour of Tetris, moving stuff around so the new stuff can fit?
  • Can you see your counters? If you could go make a meal right now without clearing space first, you're probably good. If not…

Who ends up on the "no" side

Usually the best people, honestly. If you have ADHD, or a little bit of hoarding tendency, or too many hobbies (or you're too smart and you know too many things and you have too many beautiful, beautiful things in your life: collections, amazing t-shirts, an amazing Tupperware situation), the storage test tends to come back "no." That's not a verdict on your character. It's a volume problem, and volume problems are very solvable.

What hiring us actually looks like

We come in and do a proper KonMari: everything you own, piece by piece, room by room. Kitchen or closet first; they're the best places to start. You make every keep-or-go call. In an overstuffed home, 50 to 75% of it typically turns out to be excess that was wasting your space and making everything else harder.

And the stuff you release? We take it to people who want it: shelters, moms' groups, families who need exactly what you don't. You get your space back, they get your stuff. Win-win-win.

Take the test. If it's a no, book a free consult: fifteen minutes, zero judgment, and you finally get to stop playing storage Tetris.
